how about instead of “what if nazi’s/the confederacy won” we get an au where slavery never happened or where the holocaust never happened or better yet where the bubonic plague killed these white demons off

I once saw a native american woman at a comic con wearing the most epic steam punk outfit and she had this whole backstory to her costume about an alternate america where white domination never occurred and there were multiple native nations with steampunk technology.

it was so cool, it’s been like 8 years and i’ve never forgotten that idea, i’d love her to get her own show, i’d watch that

The Years of Rice and Salt is basically what the OP wanted… the Bubonic Plague killed 99% of Europeans. It’s fascinating.

Although it isn’t addressed directly in the book, The Christmas Mutiny strongly implies that there would be no Holocaust, and that rather than there being a Zionist enclave established in part of Palestine, a larger area would be open to peaceful and neighborly Jewish settlement as Zionism was replaced by Abrahamism and the reconciliation of Abraham’s descendants.

  • It’s been awhile since anyone posted a new review of The Christmas Mutiny, but I recently got back in touch with an old friend, and she noticed I had written a book, and read it, and reviewed it:

This was an outstanding little book. The characters are nicely developed the historical 1st section well researched. In the “What would happen if” 2nd section of the book I really liked Lady Lucille. A woman for all seasons, intelligent, independent, outspoken & just a bit off beat. Mr. Burt  of The Christmas Mutiny did a decent connection between the historic & the alternate world by killing off all the historical characters but Alfred, who is the only one who dies in the alternate. Also thanks very much for having Hitler captured by what would have been his beloved brown shirts, irony-it’s wonderful.

On the minus side, explaining the character names & using different typefaces for the different languages probably didn’t need to be done. These are minor items though & don’t really detract from the story.

Well, and I do thank you kindly for sharing, Ma'am.

    • Wow, lotsa links here, for sure.
    • An interesting scenario, and a lively discussion. Thank you very much.
    • My comment:
    • The World Wars, and the authoritarian states which caused them, are such an abomination that I am vastly more interested in scenarios in which they could be prevented. Hence my novel, The Christmas Mutiny, in which the Christmas Truce of 1914 turns into what Winston Churchill imagined in November of 1914:   a “strike” in which all truly does become quiet on the Western Front: http://www.amazon.com/The-Christmas-Mutiny-John-Burt-ebook/dp/B007DMX0C8The discussion of the British and German fleets and their preparations suggest an interesting alternate scenario: the Great War of 1922, in which Kaiser Franz Ferdinand is busy with his democratic reforms and declines to take part in Germany’s latest quarrel with France. Britain does join in, and the Royal Navy is clobbered by the thoroughly modernized German fleet, possibly the biggest change in the world’s balance of powers. Russia is embroiled in yet another revolution, an even more serious one than 1905, and also does not get involved. In 1924, President Harding wins a second term running on the slogan, “He Kept Our Boys Out of Europe” . . . .
